Cozumel Snorkeling & Diving Experiences

Cozumel sits across a channel from Playa del Carmen, and the current that runs through that channel is exactly what made the island famous underwater: it keeps the water clear and turns the reef into a drift.

Planning your time in Cozumel

The reefs on the island's protected south-western side are part of a national marine park. Visibility is regularly measured in tens of metres, the coral structure is dramatic — walls, swim-throughs and sand channels — and because the current does the work, a drift dive or snorkel here is more about steering than swimming.

Getting there is a ferry from Playa del Carmen, which means a Cozumel day is a committed one. Experiences below show their own timing and meeting point so you can see how the crossing fits into the day before booking.

Conditions on the island are consistent year-round, but the marine park has rules — no gloves, no touching, guided entries in most areas — that exist because the reef is the reason anyone comes. Your guide will cover them in the briefing.
